Patrol is the very foundation of a police department. There are those units within a police department who are specialists at what they do. Experienced officers submit letters of the intent to participate in a selection process to become a member of one of these specialty units. Most of these specialty units require a number of hours of additional training in order to be accomplishd on the function of that unit.
