(01/03/12 8:00 am): Prescription Drug Take Back Program Information
The Nampa Police Department gets many inquiries about the prescription drug take back program, and this notice is intended to help provide the public with some information about that program and our involvement.
The Nampa Police Department does participate in semi annual Prescription Drug Take Back events, but is not a permanent Take Back site. The only time the Nampa Police Department accepts unused prescription drugs is during an advertised Take Back event. When we hold those events, we post notice of the upcoming event on the events page of our website. So keep an eye out for those postings if you have unused or expired prescription drugs you would like to drop off.
There are also permanent Take Back locations if you do not wish to wait until the next advertised event hosted by Nampa Police Department. For a list of Treasure Valley permanent Take Back locations, please see the Idaho Office of Drug Policy website. The permanent Take Back locations listed on their website accept prescription drugs year around.
We also receive many inquires about sharps disposal, and the Nampa Police Department does not accept sharps (needles and other biohazard medical supplies) for disposal. If you need information on proper disposal methods for sharps, we recommend visiting the Curb It website. Curb It is a Boise program, but the website provides good information on proper sharps disposal, and the disposal methods they describe are also valid in Nampa.
We thank you folks for being responsible with your unused medications, and we hope this information assists you in your efforts to properly dispose of unused Prescription Medications, and your biohazard sharps.
