- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be 21 years of age or older

- Polygraph examination
- Extensive psychological examination and evaluation
- Medical fitness examination
Preference Points will be given to those individuals who meet one of the following criteria-
• Military experience will be accepted if the applicant’s actual
duties were directly related to civil police work.
• Sixty-four (64) college credits. College credits must be from
an accredited institution and may include academic or
technical courses.
• Possession of a Level One Reserve Officer Certification from
Idaho POST.
• Enrolled in and/or completion of the Idaho POST Self-
Sponsored Student Program and completion of the Basic
Academy.
• Bilingual in Spanish/English - A language fluency test will be
conducted.
Nampa Police Department offers a lateral transfer program for certified officers, at a 2 for 1 years of service ratio.
( e.g. Transfers with 10 years experience with another agency plug in at NPD 5 year pay rate, rather than starting pay rate)
Police Officer Basic Training-
- 6 week in house mini academy
- 14 week, 4 phase field training program
- 10 week patrol academy (Idaho P.O.S.T. Academy)
- 40 hour annual block training
- Quarterly firearms training and qualification
