NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
"America's Night Out Against Crime".
In August of this year, neighborhoods throughout Nampa are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 24th Annual "National Night Out" crime and drug prevention event.
National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Nampa Police Department. This event covers over 9,700 communities from all 50 states, U.S.territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. Over 33 million people are expected to participate in "America's Night Out Against Crime" in August. Nampa Police have won national awards for participation in this program.
National Night Out is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts.
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnership.
- Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
In August, residents in neighborhoods throughout Nampa and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Many neighborhoods throughout Nampa will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, ice cream socials, parades, contests, youth activities, anti-crime rallies, with visits from Mayor Tom Dale, Chief Bill Augsburger, Assistant Chief Leroy Forsman, Assistant Chief Craig Kingsbury, McGruff the Crime Dog, and more.
