Metro Express Family Safety Day

Ever wondered if your toddler was properly strapped into the car seat? The Nampa Police Department and Metro Express Car Wash recently hosted a Family Safety Day at the Nampa Metro Express location, so poeple could find out. Family Safety Day was free to the public and it was not necessary to purchase a car wash or any other product to take advantage of it.
Metro Express stated; "Since people often have their kids and seats and cars together at our wash, it makes sense for us to offer seat inspections," said Metro Express owner
Bill Martin. "As a local business, we want to promote a safe environment and we're grateful to the City of Nampa for helping put on our first Family Safety Day."
The Nampa Police Department had certified child seat inspectors on hand and was checking seats and advising parents on proper installation. The police department also had crime prevention information and Fatal Vision, a simulator which replicates the effects of drug and alcohol impairment on site. Participants wear goggles that disrupt their vision and balance, similar to drug or alcohol impairment, then attempt physical activities.
The Nampa Fire Department was also onsite and provided a 911 call simulator, which is a tabletop unit with a phone receiver, so children can practice how to speak with an emergency dispatcher. The Nampa Fire Department also had a fire truck on display.
"As public safety professionals, we all believe in partnering with local businesses to improve public safety awareness throughout the city," said Nampa Police Office Deran Watt. "We hope this event will help educate people about safety in their homes, in their cars and in their neighborhoods."
The Golden Corral also graciously allowed use of its parking lot and its portion of the grass so public safety staff could set up displays and stage seat inspections.
Metro Express has a demonstrated commitment to local causes. Since 2010, Metro Express has raised about $11,500 for nonprofits by offering free car washes for a donation. Beneficiaries have included the Valley Crisis Center, Terry Reilly Health Services and ArtFaire Inc. The company has given away hundreds of car wash passes to nonprofits for use as door prizes and is constantly running public service announcements on its downtown Boise electronic billboards.
